ATTEND A SALON

1

Sometimes doing something starts with thinking about something. Which leads to talking about it. Which includes the sharing of ideas, stories, pain and promise. Sometimes doing something begins with understanding what needs to be done and why. It begins with understanding who—both those with whom you agree and those you don’t. Sometimes, you need a better understanding of yourself.

If you want to Do Something to help our hurting world today, one way to start is by joining conversations that deepen your understanding of both the issue and of the people involved.

With the Fairlight Forum, you have two options to join the conversations through a salon:

  • Join us at Fairlight Farm in rural Maryland

  • Join us at Fairlight House in Washington, DC for      an invitation only salon.

VOLUNTEER AT FAIRLIGHT FARM

Some conversations happen best over a fancy meal or coffee and dessert, a nice glass of wine. But other conversations happen best with busy hands between moments of hard work and shared laughter.

The Fairlight Forum offers opportunities to volunteer at Fairlight Farm, the 200-year-old agricultural property John and Kimberly are working to restore, with agricultural fields, a wetland meadow, and forested creek banks. Eventually, they plan to add bees and goats. It’s a “gentleman’s farm”, often called in the derogatory term of hobby farm. But as anyone who has grown so much as a small vegetable garden knows, caring for the land is anything but an occasional hobby.

Fairlight Farm offers occasional opportunities for both individual volunteers, who want to learn to care for the land and to learn more about peacebuilding and reconciliation in their own lives, as well as for groups who wish to spend a day on tasks such as building trails or repairing fences, while exploring themes of reconciliation among themselves and in their communities. Contact the Fairlight Forum for more information.
